The Ukiah Photography Club meets at MEDIUM Art Gallery, 518 E. Perkins Street, Ukiah on the first Saturday of every month at 10:00 a.m. The upcoming meeting will be on August 3rd. Members get together to share their work, discuss projects, and connect with fellow photographers. If you're unable to attend in person, we can provide you with a link to join the meeting online.
The photography theme for August is “seasons.” Photographing the same scene across different seasons highlights the dynamic nature of landscapes. In spring, capture the vibrant greens and blooming flowers with soft, diffused light. Summer offers lush foliage and golden hour light. Autumn brings warm red, orange, and yellow hues for misty morning shots. Winter's stark beauty is showcased through the cold, brisk air and low-angle sunlight, creating long shadows. Consistent camera settings, composition, and embracing various weather conditions will beautifully document the scene's transformation throughout the year.
Club member Chris Watt will give a live demo of his cyanotype process. The cyanotype process, discovered in 1842 by English scientist Sir John Herschel, involves coating paper or fabric with a light-sensitive solution of iron salts. When exposed to sunlight and washed, the iron salts react to create a blue dye.
